IWAS WHEELCHAIR FENCING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP TERNI 2018
Saranno venticinque le nazioni partecipanti al Campionato Europeo Assoluto di Scherma Paralimpica che si terrà a Terni dal 17 al 23 settembre, presso il Palatennistavolo, PalaDeSantis di Terni.
Organizzatore dell’evento il Circolo Scherma Terni che, dall’alto dei suoi 72 anni di esperienza, si occuperà di gestire tutta la manifestazione come già fatto per il Campionato Europeo Master di scherma del 2013. Il Presidente Alberto Tiberi conta di organizzare, nei prossimi anni, anche un grande evento mondiale.
Una manifestazione di altissimo livello, il Campionato Europeo Assoluto di Scherma Paralimpica
Richiama i migliori atleti delle categorie A, B, C. individuate secondo la mobilità del busto. Tutti combatteranno in carrozzina, e , l’aspetto interessante, e’ che lo faranno anche gli atleti che hanno un perfetto utilizzo degli arti inferiori. Gli atleti più “mobili” avranno la categoria A.
Per fare un esempio, la nostra grande atleta Bebe Vio, Oro individuale e a squadre a Rio 2016, si trova nella categoria B, che e’ quella di mezzo.
La manifestazione ha un richiamo altissimo sul territorio
Si stimano circa diecimila presenze, fra addetti ai lavori, staff, direttori tecnici e personale addetto all’assistenza degli atleti, senza contare quella che sarà la presenza di pubblico appassionato.
Facciamo qualche numero
25 nazioni, con la Russia che la fa da padrone con circa 40 atleti, l’Italia segue con 32 persone nel Team, fra atleti e accompagnatori. 800 le carrozzine da movimentare nei trasferimenti degli atleti. Imponente la presenza degli addetti ai lavori: si contano circa 300-400 persone quotidianamente impegnate e 180 i volontari al seguito degli atleti divisi su due turni giornalieri. Il personale volontario ha una formazione specifica e si prendera’ cura degli sportivi, accompagnandoli nelle strutture idonee individuate sul territorio e seguiendoli durante tutto l’arco delle gare.

Il Presidente ha tenuto anche a ringraziare “la Fondazione Carit” senza la quale non si sarebbe potuto dare l’avvio a questo evento. L’ architetto Tiberi ringrazia anche tutti i privati che hanno voluto sostenere questa iniziativa. Una grande opportunità per la città per la visibilità ed il prestigio a livello internazionale”.

IWAS WHEELCHAIR FENCING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP TERNI 2018
There will be twenty-five nations taking part in the Absolute European Paralympic Fencing Championship to be held in Terni from 17 to 23 September, at the Palatennistavolo.
Organizer of the event the Terni Fencing Club that, from the top of its 72 years of experience, will handle the entire event as already done for the 2013 European Fencing Masters Championship.
The President Alberto Tiberi plans to organize, in the next few years, also a great world event.
An event of the highest level, the Absolute European Championship of Paralympic Fencing, which recalls the best athletes of categories A, B, C. identified according to the mobility of the bust.
All will fight in a wheelchair, and, interestingly, it is also the athletes who have a perfect use of the lower limbs.
The most “mobile” athletes will have category A. .
To give an example, our great athlete Bebe Vio, Gold individual and teams in Rio 2016, is in the category B, which is the middle one.
The event has a very high appeal in the area, it is estimated that about ten thousand visitors, among professionals, staff, technical directors and staff to assist the athletes, not counting what will be the presence of passionate audience.
To realize the size of the event specifically, let’s make a few numbers: 25 countries, with Russia dominating with about 40 athletes, Italy follows with 32 people in the team, between athletes and escorts. 800 wheelchairs to be moved in the transfers of athletes.
Imposing the presence of the insiders: there are about 300-400 people daily engaged and 180 volunteers following the athletes divided over two daily shifts.
The volunteer staff has a specific training and will take care of the athletes, accompanying them in the appropriate structures identified in the territory and following them throughout the competitions.
“An event of great social value”, the Chairman, Dr. Tiberi, would like to reiterate because, in addition to everything, he will provide a staff of professionals throughout the period to accommodate all people with disabilities who want to try out the sports .
The President also thanked “the Carit Foundation” without which it would not have been possible to start this event.
